“Paddlewheel & Pulitzer” Local League Friday Night Dinner
Friday, June 2, 6:30-8:30 PM
Join us on board the Delta King, an authentic 285-foot paddlewheeler which began offering river voyages between San Francisco and Sacramento in June 1927. At 6 p.m. each evening, the grand ship left for the 10 ½ hour trip that included prohibition era drinking, jazz bands, gambling, and fine dining. A stateroom was $3.50, but for a dollar and your own blanket, the night could be spent on the Cargo Deck.
In 1948, after being sunk for 18 months in San Francisco Bay, the Delta King was towed to Old Sacramento, where it underwent a complete renovation. Five painstaking years later, the Delta King reopened once again to reign as the heralded monarch of the Sacramento River.
Join us for an evening of fun that includes a sumptuous Riverboat Gambler Buffet, and a lively presentation by Jack Ohman, Sacramento Bee editorial cartoonist and Pulitzer Prize winner.
Ohman is an editorial cartoonist and associate editor for the Sacramento Bee, writing a weekly column and several editorials each week. Before joining the Bee in 2013, Ohman worked for the Oregonian, the Detroit Free Press, and the Columbus Dispatch. His work is syndicated to 200 newspapers nationwide. During his four decades in journalism, Ohman has been recognized with numerous awards, including the most recent 2016 Pulitzer Prize for editorial cartooning.
